Nine months ago I started an extension to my house, and as you can see from the pictures the project is nearly finished.
I completed all this work alone, apart from a few friends who helped lift the roof timbers, no big deal I've always worked that way.
I think it's time I went back to work. I need to earn some money to pay for the above.
The building industry in this country has all, but closed down, so I thought I might try to do something else.
Over the past three weeks I've attended five interviews. At the first one there were five hundred applicants, we were seen in lots of three, the first guy was asked his age and replied, 'fifty three' and was politely asked to leave, I got up to leave with him and was asked why I was going, I politely told them, I was ten years older. Nobody stopped me.
The second interview was at the local hospital as a cleaner, age didn't seem to matter but my services were declined because apparently I wasn't qualified.
I can honestly say I have never met anyone with a diploma in cleaning.
The third interview was in a factory, the job was squeezing orange juice..........I was told I'd get a phone call, I did, it wasn't good.
The fourth one was a driving job, ferrying old folk about for twenty hours a week.
I had another negative phone call.
The last one was for a security firm, this one seemed quite promising, I had a good interview and got on really well with the guy.
Three days later I got the bullshit letter saying they weren't taking on anymore staff.
Well I always try and look on the bright side of a down situation and this was no exception. When I got back from the second interview my wife asked me very nicely if I would mind washing up..........................I told her I was really sorry but I wasn't qualified to do that Job.
